SOLUTIONS: GOVERNMENT
| Government networks and data centers, similar to Enterprise, consist of 3 common areas of focus for a Chief Information or Security Officer: Security, Application Performance and Troubleshooting. Given the increases in bandwidth to 10G and beyond as well as the number of new applications, these focus areas become increasingly complex. RedDot Networks has solutions which enhance each of the three areas and enable CIOs, CSOs, IT Directors, Network Managers and Security Administrators to achieve 100% application and network visibility as well as the value of existing and future network investments. | |

SECURITY |
| Security is at the forefront of today’s networks. It is difficult to pick up a paper and not read a headline about a cyber attack. Not only do breaches compromise government assets and impact operations but they can also cause a national or global impact on the lives of millions of people. Traditional Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), although effective, sit in-line in the network and can cause performance issues as they typically do not scale above 4Gbps line rate or 300Mbps per session. As an alternative, many enterprises have turned to Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), which typically are connected to a SPAN port or Traffic Access Point (TAP). The advantage of an IDS is that it does not impact the performance of the network since it does not sit in-line. The challenge with IDS’s is how to cost-effectively deploy them. | |
RedDot Networks provides solutions which allow IDS clusters (and simultaneously other monitoring tools) to be shared amongst multiple SPAN ports and TAPs. Using the eTAG 320G enhanced Traffic Access Gateway with its Pinpoint Packet Inspection™, the traffic is processed and dynamically distributed to the IDS cluster. The eTAG 320G and eBalancer 10G, manage load distribution, session cohesion and replication for optimizing IDS clusters and other monitoring tools simultaneously. |

APPLICATION PERFORMANCE |
| The goal of Application Performance is two-fold: Decrease Agency Costs and Facilitate Employee Productivity. While there are many monitoring tools which provide excellent information about application performance and even allow you to troubleshoot issues, the challenge is that there are not enough traffic access points in the network to attach these tools and the tools are overwhelmed due to receiving all traffic at 10G not just the traffic of interest. CIOs, IT Directors, Network Managers and Security Managers have well qualified teams that ensure the network infrastructure and data centers are properly designed and performing; however, the network monitoring infrastructure has been implemented in a more ad hoc fashion. | |
Best Practices are now specifying that networks and data centers be equally well designed in order to provide a network monitoring infrastructure so that monitoring tools can be easily added ubiquitously. The eTAP 20G enables CIOs, IT Directors, Network Managers and Security Administrators to pre-instrument the network monitoring infrastructure to accommodate any monitoring tool at any time throughout the network regardless of speed, without impacting network uptime. |

TROUBLESHOOTING |
| Problem identification, isolation and resolution is important to maintain the highest possible end user experience and productivity. Troubleshooting is becoming more challenging given the increase in bandwidth and the number of applications. With 1Gb/s Ethernet deployed to the desktop, 10Gb/s Ethernet is now a requirement at the aggregation and core switches. Along with the increase in bandwidth is a significant increase in the numbers of wanted and unwanted applications. The combination of more bandwidth and applications has made existing monitoring infrastructure inadequate for troubleshooting. |
|
Only RedDot Networks provides solutions with Pinpoint Packet Inspection™ to identify, isolate and replicate any type of traffic in order to prevent the 10Gb/s traffic with its additional applications from overwhelming existing monitoring tools. As an example, most storage devices (e. g. data recorders) have a “write-to-disk” limit below 10Gb/s(typically only 4Gb/s.) If a data recorder could write to disk at full 10Gb/s line rate, that rate would be the equivalent of 4.5 TB/hour. In just over 10 hours, a 48 TB data recorder is full, therefore, selective replication is required to capture specific application or network traffic. RedDot Networks’ products have been designed to operate in government networks and data centers with very low power consumption (e. g. less than 80W) and minimal cooling required. The products can be configured through a web-based GUI or using a command line interface which can be used in conjunction with scripting/automation. |
